Make the Bathroom YOUR Bathroom

English version:

Bathrooms can be quite neglected which is a little crazy as they are one of the easiest rooms to decorate. We’re good at spending time searching out all the practical stuff (tub, taps, tiles) and not so good at finding those all-important elements that turn them into a sanctuary.
It goes without saying that they should be treated like any other room in the house, softened with items that make them feel homely – an old chair, plants, scented candles, maybe a soft rug. Baskets are fabulous for towels or rubbish bins as they add warmth and texture. Storage is a key. Ugly stuff goes behind closed doors, cool stuff should go on open storage like a bar cart or dresser or shelves. Details matter and will help set the room apart.
Taps, baths and basins can all be brought relatively inexpensively from reclamation yards – keep it simple with clever little touches – such as drawer pulls that update cabinets, unusual lighting, quirky hooks to hang towels or robes. This is a fab way of connecting your bathroom to the rest of your house – instead of making it a clinical space devoid of character and life.
Push the paint palette or wallpaper choice. Bathrooms are rooms we can take the most risks being generally smaller than the other rooms and places we tend to zoom in and out of. Paint plays a huge part in transforming a room – deep sumptuous hues will give the room an edge by establishing a visual identity that just shouts sophistication.
But the huge advantage of wallpaper over paint is that you can actually try it out before applying – few tips to remember large patterns will visually reduce the size of your bathroom verticals will draw your eye upward, and make the room feel taller (yay to that) and horizontals will widen it.
Regarding moisture well the thicker vinyl coated stuff made especially for bathrooms is the way to go – anything else will quickly degrade in the moist environment.
Designing a bathroom is a matter of mixing function with the practical stuff but also combining style. A bathroom, shower room whatever you want to call it should blend in beautifully with the rest of your space – yes it will feel different but it should be a gentle transition if that makes any sense, not some cold sterile space that lacks personality.
Here are a few ideas and solutions that will make the space feel like a luxurious retreat for relaxing after a long exhausting day! By arredamento.it

1. Kate Challis design The wallpaper is Porter’s Lace in Aniseed by Catherine Martin.
2. This space is teeny tiny but way more dramatic and fun. The stripes do all the talking you almost don’t need anything else.
3. An image from Livingetc - a bathroom in a bedroom. It works because the owners have blended the bathroom beautifully into scheme, hanging a beautiful chandelier in the space, echoing the palette – it’s that gentle transitional thing I was banging on about a second ago.
