Durante la notte tra il 31 marzo ed il primo aprile 2014, Frankie Knuckles scompare a causa di complicazioni dovute al diabete, cui soffriva da tempo: la stessa malattia costrinse il DJ a subire l'amputazione del piede nel 2008, ma ciò non impedì all'artista di continuare ad esibirsi.
Frankie Knuckles, all'anagrafe Frank Warren Knuckles Jr.è stato uno dei padri della Musica House, colonna sonora delle discoteche di tutto il mondo, a cavallo tra gli ’80 e i ‘90.Formatosi sul finire della discomusic al termine della decade precedente, Frankie, spostandosi da New York a Chicago, guidò la transizione verso la house, letteralmente inventandola nei club underground della Windy City. Da lì tracimando, per diventare un vero e proprio monumento dall’altra parte dell’Oceano, idolo assoluto nei santuari della dance, fossero le Baleari, la nostra Riviera o le isole greche. Tanto bravo tecnicamente che ai suoi servigi ricorsero anche alcuni giganti del pop come Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston e i Depeche Mode. Devoto dell’understatement, schivo, non come certi calibri della consolle di oggi che si atteggiano a rockstar, con richieste improbabili, se ne è andato in silenzio, lui che del rumore (ben fatto, s’intende) aveva fatto una religione.

Frankie Knuckles, born Frank Warren Knuckles Jr. was one of the fathers of House Music, the soundtrack of the clubs around the world at the turn of the 80s and 90s. So good technically to resort to his services even some of the giants of the pop as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Depeche Mode. Devoted of understatement, reserved, not like some of the console gauges of today who pretend to be rock stars, with improbable requests, he left in silence, he who from the noise (well done, of course) made a religion.
