Essendo una ex-ballerina (facevo le gare di danza sportiva) ho ancora l'amore per la danza, in particolare lo standard e la danza classica. Ho sempre voluto andare ad almeno uno dei 450 eventi presso il Teatro dell'Opera di Vienna ( Wiener Staatsoper in Tedesco), come il Ballo dell'Opera (Wiener Opernball) che organizzano ogni anno in questo periodo. Il carnevale qui in Italia è appena passato ed ho pensato che sarà bello dirvi di più su una delle più antiche tradizioni di ballo (che ammiro!). Diamo uno sguardo!

As a formal dancer ( I used to compete in sport dancing ) I still keep the love for dancing, especially the standard and classic dancing. I've always wanted to go to at least one of the c.a. 450 events at the Vienna Opera House like the Opera Ball they held at this time every year. The Carnival here in Italy was the past tuesday, 4th march, and I thought that it will be nice to tell you more about one of the oldest ball traditions ( because I admire it ! ). Let's have a look!
Il Ballo dell'Opera di Vienna è un evento annuale che si svolge nel palazzo della Teatro dell'Opera di Vienna, Austria. Il Ballo dell'Opera è uno dei punti forti della stagione di carnevale viennese. Il codice di abbigliamento è smoking nero con code per gli uomini e abiti lunghi fino a terra per le donne. Il Ballo dell'Opera stato tenuto per la prima volta nel 1935, ma una volta che è stato sospeso durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e una volta nel 1991 a causa della guerra del Golfo Persico.

The Vienna Opera Ball ( Der Wiener Opernball in German) is an annual event which takes place in the building of the Vienna State Opera in Vienna, Austria. The Opera Ball is one of the highlights of the Viennese carnival season. The dress code is black tuxedo with tails for men and large floor-length gowns for women. The Opera Ball was first held in 1935,but once was suspended during the Second World War and once in 1991 because of the Persian Gulf War.
A proposito di Teatro dell'Opera di Vienna - La struttura del teatro è stata progettata dall'architetto viennese August Sicard von Sicardsburg, mentre l'interno è stato progettato dal decoratore d'interni Eduard van der Nüll. Non influenzati dai bombardamenti erano tutto il fronte principale, la hall principale, la scala centrale, la Schwind Foyer e veranda attaccato, e il Salone del tè al primo piano. Questi sono stati conservati nel loro stato originale. Guardando la parte anteriore dell'edificio dalla Ringstraße, si può vedere la struttura originaria che è stata conservata dal 1869. Le facciate sono decorate con archi in stile rinascimentale.

About the Vienna State Opera - The structure of the opera house was planned by the Viennese architect August Sicard von Sicardsburg, while the inside was designed by interior decorator Eduard van der Nüll.Unaffected by the bombing were the whole main front, the main lobby, the central staircase, the Schwind Foyer and attached veranda, and the Tea Salon on the first floor. These have been preserved in their original state. Looking at the front of the building from the Ringstraße, one can see the original structure that has been preserved since 1869. The facades are decorated in Renaissance-style arches.
La capacità della sala è ora 2.284 invece dei precedenti 2.881 posti. I colori tradizionali rosso, oro e avorio sono stati utilizzati per l'auditorium, e il grande lampadario centrale è stato sostituito per la sicurezza da un anello di luci incorporate nel soffitto in vetro di cristallo. L'anello di vetro pesa circa 3.000 kg e usa 1.100 lampadine. Esso è di 7 metri di diametro e 5 metri di altezza, ha spazio per uno stand illuminazione e corridoi per la manutenzione del sistema.

The capacity of the auditorium is now 2,284 seats instead of the previous 2,881. The traditional colors of red, gold, and ivory were used for the auditorium, and the large central chandelier was replaced for safety by ring of built-in ceiling lights made of crystal glass. The glass ring weighs about 3,000 kilograms and uses 1,100 bulbs. It is 7 meters in diameter and 5 meters high; it has space for a lighting stand and corridors for maintenance of the system.
